Mrs. Kersey and Ms. Nelson took students to District competitions and 26 students placed 1st through 4th in December.  Those students traveled on to the State Level in Orlando in March.  On the State Level, 7 students will travel to National competitions in Chicago,5132015_74605_1.jpg June 29 through July 2.  The state winners were Meng Fei Shen, Clay Thomson and Joseph Rubianes - placed 1st in E-Business, David Eniquez placed 1st in Impromptu Speaking, Kyle Johnson, Ria Kale and Sean Pointek placed 2nd for Emerging Business Issues.  FBLA  also received the Pansy Gold Seal Chapter Award and won 5th Place for Business Partnership. This is due to our business partnership with Suncoast Credit Union to promote financial literacy to our students.  Meng Fei won the Beau Schenecker Scholarship Award.  Congratulations to Joey Rubianes and Clay Thompson, they were recognized at the May 12th School Board Meeting.

AP Computer Science Students:guys.jpg
Lockhead Martin sponsored the Third Annual Code Quest competition.  This year it was held for the first time in Orlando. Students from Florida, North and South Carolina attended in groups of 2-3 students to conquer 15-20 Java Programming problems. This year Mrs. Kersey took Kyle Bustami, William Bowers, and Jesse Shrader from her AP Computer Science class.  It was a wonderful experience for the students.  They were able to see many simulations, meet many employees from all departments and see first hand how software & computer engineering impacts their operations.  We saw Microsoft Outlook and Excel used to keep track of pilot training.  We also saw graphics design and gaming simulations to train pilots.   Lockhead Martin will hire 134 computer engineers this year.  If you are interested in this field start now.  Sign up for Java Programming Essentials and then AP Computer Science offered here at Robinson High School.
There was also a costume contest. Our team “Pirates of JavaDocs”  took first place in the costume contest.  Kyle Bustami’s wonderful creativity in putting together the outfits was fantastic.  We look forward to participating again next year.

Academy of Travel and Tourism Students:

Ms. Griffin and Travel DECA had four winners on the district level.  They traveled to State Competitions and brought home the GOLD for our Chapter Annual Business Plan.   The travel and tourism students will celebrate National Tourism Week on May 4 – 8.  The purpose of this week is to bring awareness to the importance of Tourism to Tampa, Florida, and worldwide. cube.gifStudents have you visited The Cube?
The Cube (College and Career Center) has been up and running in the Media Center since September, 2012. Two parents started it, Anne Eason and Meg Fernandez, as a college/career resource center. The Cube is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during school hours. The Cube has about 8 parent volunteers who meet with juniors and seniors to help the students plan for their post-high school lives. After a few months of working with students one-on-one, the parents realized that they weren't able to meet with as many students as they needed to...and  decided to extend their reach by creating a newsletter. So, in February of last year the parent volunteers put together The Cube's first newsletter with information about scholarships, application deadlines for college, studying for SAT/ACT, volunteerism, summer programs etc. Since that time, these parents have written about four newsletters. The most recent one (April, 2014) is written just for juniors. Click here to read April's newsletter. For more newsletters, visit Robinson College.
